How do I brew coffee camping?
Oct 25, 2006 by ljk | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
without a coffee maker. Maybe the question should be......how did they brew coffee back in the good ol' days.
Go to Walmart & buy a "percolator" coffee pot. Its the old school coffee maker. Water goes in the pot, coffee is put in a metal basket that inserts inside, put the lid on & stick it on the fire. When the water boils, you can see it thru the clear top. You can watch the water turn to however dark you want your coffee. It works great.

How do you make coffee without using an automatic coffee maker?
Jul 08, 2007 by Shaira | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
I'm not sure and my husband decided we needed to go camping, and i need my coffee, i just don't know how to make it over a campfire.
If anyone can help me i'd greatly appriciate it!
Good Instant Coffee
Steps
1. Put water in a kettle and plug it in. If you do not have a kettle, then put water in a pot and put it on the stove. Or use an immersion heater and warm up the water in a seperate heat-proof mug. The easiest method is to use a microwave.
2. Take the instant coffee and put about one slightly rounded teaspoon (this may vary based upon how strong one likes their coffee) in a mug.
3. Pour the very hot (nearly boiling) water into the mug.
4. Add fresh whole milk, fresh half-and-half, or non-dairy creamer to the coffee if desired. Evaporated milk from a can (undiluted) may also be used, and sugar.
5. Flavorings such as vanilla extract, cocoa powder, or ground cinnamon may be added at this time. If the coffee has been modified, then stir thoroughly until all extra ingredients have been dissolved.
Tips
* All the additives and measurements vary based on the person so be sure that you know what you like!
* The sugar, creamer, and/or flavorings may be measured into the cup before adding the water.
* Store instant coffee in the freezer in an air-tight container in order to maintain that fresh aroma that it has when you first open the new container.
* If desired, you may use artificial sweeteners instead of sugar. However, be aware that aspartame (Nutrasweet/Equal) breaks down with heat, so it loses sweetness over time. This does not occur with saccharin (Sweet N Low) or sucralose (Splenda).
* You might want to add the milk to the mug before adding the boiling water.
Warnings
* Even though instant coffee doesn't contain as much caffeine as brewed coffee, it still has a substantial amount of the drug. Too much caffeine can lead to health problems.
* Making instant coffee means being close to water which is at scalding temperatures. Take reasonable safety precautions when around extremely hot water.

Is there a recharable battery pack for camping?
Jun 22, 2007 by kds70 | Posted in Camping
Is there a recharable battery pack that you can plug in a AC appliance, such as a coffee maker, that would be portable enough to take camping? Something like a generator, but would only use a battery pack that could be recharged?

Making coffee with a camp percolater?
Jan 13, 2008 by T | Posted in Other - Outdoor Recreation
My coffee maker broke. I've been using my little camp percolater. I have an electric stove and have yet to get the perking down to a science. Anybody savvy on how to cook your coffee and make it come out as good as it does when you're campin?
When you are camping, or for that matter, when you eat outside like a picnic, things just taste better. I have no explanation as to why this is....things just taste better outside

Instant coffee- IS any of it decent?
Jul 15, 2008 by jaddie_mommy | Posted in Other - Outdoor Recreation
I am planning a camping trip, I am a die hard coffee drinker, I cannot function in the morning until I have some. I have looked at perculator and the coleman coffee maker. I would love to buy the Cloeman coffee maker but It is $40 and we dont camp a lot.
Is the Instant coffee any good, what brands do you like..
Thanks
Folgers Instant is good stuff.
The trick to making a good cup of instant (that most folks miss, ruining their coffee) is only using a teaspoon of coffee to a cup of water. Just fill the teaspoon SLIGHTLY above it's rim.
Do not use a HEAPING teaspoon.
Dump the teaspoon into the hot water, and give ONE QUICK STIR.A thin light-carmel colored foam will rise to the top of the cup.
NOW you have a good, smooth cup of coffee. Add cream and sugar if you like or just enjoy.
Most folks unfamiliar with instant coffee use WAY to much per cup, and wind up with undrinkable black paint. This gave instant coffee it's undeserved bad reputation.
