How to install dishwasher in a kitchen not built for one?

My husband and I are in the process of buying a house. It does not have a dishwasher. WE DEFINITELY WANT ONE! The house was built in 1991 and remodeled this summer. It has new cabinets & countertops. They're just cheap, white cabinets. We asked Lowes & Best Buy if they'd install a dishwasher. They both said they can only do it if the cabinet is built for it. They won't tear out cabinets.
How can we do this ourselves? What will we need? I'd rather not call a contractor.
The easiest answer is to get a "portable" dishwasher. Its a dishwasher on wheels and usually has a butcher block top. Its usually wheeled over near the sink and hooked up to the faucet with an easy attachment when you need to use it. It wheels out of the way when you're done.
If you want a "built in" dishwasher, you're going to have to take out one of the floor cabinets to make room for the diswasher. This wont be easy without damaging the rest of the cabinets and the counter top.
The counter top may be glued to the floor cabinets. Dishwashers are usually 24" wide. So see if one of your floor cabinets is 24" wide, and that would be the best one to remove. Each cabinet is probably screwed to the wall, the neighboring cabinet, and the counter top.
If you're lucky, one of your base cabinets is 24" wide, and is only screwed to the counter top. You may be able to remove all the screws, and pull it out from under the counter. A built in dishwasher could then be installed in its place.
You'll also need electricity and a hot water supply and a drain nearby. Preferable next to or near the sink.
If the counter top is glued to the base cabinet, its going to be more difficult.

How many circuits do I need for my kitchen?

I am doing a kitchen remodel and the contractor doing the work is going to run the electrical as follows:
1 breaker for dishwasher and garbage disposal
1 breaker for lights
1 breaker for oven (220v)
1 breaker for countertop receptacles, which will also run the hood and a small wine fridge
1 for the microwave
1 for the refrigerator
Is this sufficient? Do I need to have 2 for the countertop or will 1 do?
You have 6.........I would put 8........as you say, two for plugs, with all the electrical devices.......it's nice to be prepared. And if possible take the time to put a plug in for your oven, dw, and anything else you might need to take away and get fixed. I also have put in instant hot water under the sink..........but that's up to you. Don't forget tv or any thing such as that in the kitchen for wife or you........we have a desk work area..........so there is a adding machine and could be a computer there also. And be sure to have enough lighting even if you have to have it on two switches..........under the uppers is a nice effect also........If you have a sky lite, twinkle it up also with some of these new rope lights.......it's nice at night. These are just a few idea's not something to mess up your head........there's so much out there today that one can do........you really can't get enough of anything. Have a nice xmas.

Can my fridge, microwave, countertop receptacles and range hood all run off the same circuit?

I am by no means an electrician - furthest thing from it - but it seems like there is a lot on that last circuit.
The drywall is up and textured, etc. If this should be fixed, can it be done with minmal demo?
Update - after reviewing your responses I chewed out my contractor and we will have dedicated breakers for each the refrigerator and microwave. Question - is it ok to have the hood remain on the same breaker with the convenience outlets and is it ok that we have only 1 breaker for the convenience outlets?
Can I replace the "guts" of a portable Kenmore dishwasher that I've hooked up permanently, with an under the c?

A friend gave me her Kenmore dishwasher. My *portable* Kenmore dishwasher was eventually "built in" (water hooked up). Now it needs to be replaced, but there is no countertop to put her dishwasher under. can I swap out her unit into my old Portables cabinet?? Opinions?
measure the new one and measure the cabinet and see if it'll fit! standard width is 24" and height is 34 1/2.. you might need to modify the cabinet to get water supply, waste and power to it.

All of our current appliances are white, but I really like the look of the silver stainless steel fridges. My husband says that would look stupid with a white dishwasher, white micro, white oven, white stovetop BUT we're also planning on moving within 2 yrs, hopefully into a home that will have stainless steel appliances, and the only thing we'd take with us from here is the fridge.
Would it look really bad to have a stainless still fridge in a kitchen with white appliances & caramel colored (medium toned) cabinets? The countertops are granite with warm colors of copper, orange, tan and garnet.
I think the stainless craze will be over with in 2 years or so. To keep it uniform for now, I think the white is best. With the stainless, it may make your other appliances look cheap. They have beautiful white appliances out now and they are very moderen.
