KitchenAid Dish Washer Stops after 10 seconds?

No matter what mode the dishwasher is in, it will work for about the first 10 seconds, then it stops completely. I think the serial number is 8270219.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I am not sure? What is it that you have to do to get it to come back on? And does it go off as soon as the water start to flow?

Some machine will have a leak detector that will shut down the machine in the event of a leak. This sensor could be faulty. Or the switch is faulty when the electric goes through it, electricity makes heat and can move the contacts when the copper heats up. This is very rare but possible. Some motors will have an automatic reset and could be your motor is failing.

Kitchen Knives - Looking for mid-price range set. (Kitchenaid??)?

I am one of those who loves the kitchenaid stuff... I've got a whole kitchen full of the red appliances & utensils. My mother-in-law gets this stuff for me for Xmas each year.

This year, I'm thinking I want the knife set, but my father-in-law says they're not so great (or so he read). The thing is, he is the type who has to buy top-of-the-line everything, and he thinks high price = high quality automatically. (He's a bit of a sucker if you ask me)

Let me tell you about my needs, and hopefully I can get some good recommendations. The most important thing to mention is we are vegetarians, so the majority of the cutting we do is going to be veggies, breads, and occasionally mock meats. Basically, I think that a raw potato or a day-old baguette of bread is the hardest thing we ever cut.

Most of the reviews I've read on the kitchenaid set are spotty. A one-star review will complain that they rust, while the next one will be five-star & say they only rust if you put them in the dishwasher, and an SOS pad takes that away. One says they're great, the next says they're awful. Great. Awful. Great. Awful.

A lot of the "awful" reviews will recommend like Wustoff or Calphalon -- expensive brands that I KNOW are going to be wayyyy beyond what we need!

Can someone give me the low-down on knives?

Thanks!

Paul in San Diego - I thought that Stainless Steel was actually a poor material to make knives from because stainless can't hold an edge as well?
Okay again, remember that I've already said I think brands like Wustoff are going to be far beyond what I need. I am not a professional chef!
CapnRon - LOL You MEN just don't understand why we women want all our stuff to match, do ya?

Thanks for the advice. When I say "set" - I'm talking about a set of 3 or possibly 7 knives. Right now we have some very cheap knives that flex when we cut and we worry that they'll break sometimes!

The cheaper knives are made of stamped steel, where they run a sheet of steel through a press, which stamps out the shape of the knife blade. The blade is basically flat, with only a bevel at the cutting edge. This makes them a bit off balance and they don't stay sharp as long as top quality knives.

Really cheap knives are not stainless steel and they will rust. The mid-priced stamped knives won't rust. But, they aren't as good as the top-quality knives that are forged. Forged knives are generally thicker along the spine of the blade and gradually taper down to the cutting edge. These are made of a higher strength steel, so they stay sharper longer. They are also very well balanced and easy to use.

I got a 10-piece set of Wusthoff forged knives for Christmas last year. I think they were around $270 plus delivery. I also got a knife sharpener, but have never used it on these knives. The set did come with a quality sharpening steel, which I use occasionally to hone out the cutting edge. And, since they're so finely balanced, they are really awesome to use.

Kitchenaid Dishwasher problem?

My kitchenaid dishwasher runs through the cleaning cycle, but there is quite a bit of detergent left in the door when its done, and the trap is opening. I use the suggested amount, and have tried less, neither work. What is the problem here?

You should use the liquid format. It doesn't have the clumping or non-dissolve problems that the powders and tabs do

Also make sure that you are loading the dishwasher properly and that nothing is obstructing water flow to the dishwasher cup since it opens by a timer in the main wash.

Also make sure that your water is hot enough. This is important because dishwasher detergent is formulated to only work with very hot water. If your dishwasher doesn't have an internal water heater your hot water should be no "cooler" than 140 degrees, otherwise you can set your water heater as low as 120 degrees

My recommendations? --> Electrasol or Finish Liquid Automatic Dishwasher Detergent.. Works great!

2 dispenser doors on dishwasher?

I have a new dishwasher (Kitchenaid) that has 2 dispensers, and both have doors. I'm not sure which one I'm supposed to use for my detergent. One has a small picture with solid lines radiating out, and one has dotted lines radiating out (both like sun rays). Please help! Thanks!
It didn't come with a manual. And my guess is that one is for the detergent and one is for the rinse agent (JetDry), but I don't know which one is for which.
Oh, there is also another compartment that is circular (the other 2 doors are rectangular) with a non-removable covering that is slotted. What is that for?

I'm guessing the solid lines mean liquid and the dotted lines mean powder. Did it come with a manual?

Dishwasher Problem, they come out foggy?

I have a KitchenAid dishwasher and have had it 3 years. I do not have a water softner in my house and never have. The dishes and glasses were fine until a few months ago. Now, no matter what I use everything has a film on it. A film so bad you can run your finger over it and your finger is white. I have tried all the products that supposedly remove buildup that the stores sell. I would say hard water is the problem but it never happened before. Any thoughts?

There are a few things that could affect this. First, be certain your hot water heater is set at about 120 degrees f. That's an optimum temperature for dishwashers and not so hot you'll take your skin off in the shower. Sometimes it helps to run the hot water in the sink until it's good and hot just before starting the dishwasher. Second, be sure you're not putting too much detergent in the dishwasher. We switched to the prepackaged pellets in our house. Third, be sure you're not overloading the machine and that nothing is blocking the rotation of the spray heads. If that's happening the machine can't properly rinse the dishes after the wash cycle. Fourth, try using the anti-streak products on the market. There's a place for them in the dishwasher with a screw off cap. Hope this helps.

KitchenAid Dishwasher Lock Light Flashing

This Tip ‘O Da Day applies to newer KitchenAid dishwashers with working model numbers like KUDI02FR.

The flashing Lock light problem is caused by a stuck key on the touchpanel comfort.

If the control board detects that a key is stuck in the “mashed-in” place, then the dishwasher will suspend operation and maddeningly flash the light for that key until the condition is fixed. If a key without a disclose is stuck or multiple keys are stuck, the control will flash the Lock kindle.

The cure is to replace the touchpanel console. Easy job and, conveniently, here’re the part links. Click it to git it, Hoss:
