Portable Dishwasher?

I'm looking to get a portable dishwasher - the kind that connect to the kitchen sink - for my apartment. I'm wondering how well they work. Can anyone share their experience with a portable dishwasher? Thanks.

. Years ago we had a portable dishwasher too. They clean just as well as the ones that are installed. Make sure you are finished in the kitchen before you hook it up. Today I can not do with out my dishwasher. They are such time savers. some one told me once that dishwashers are for lazy people, I say that any thing that helps you with your chores does not make a person lazy!! Poppy

Can you convert a portable dishwasher to a built-in or would I have to buy a convertible dishwasher?

I'm unable to put a built-in dishwasher in my kitchen at this time so I'm looking for a portable one. I've found portable and convertible dishwashers and I'm not sure what the difference is. Wouldn't I be able to turn a portable one into a built-in just as easily as a convertible?

Well, no, the thing that makes a convertible a convertible is that the conversion is easy. That is not to say that you can't convert a portable to built in (I have done it) but it will not be as easy as one that is designed to be convertible.

Can I get a portable dishwasher with low kitchen sink faucet pressure?

I want to get a portable or countertop dishwasher for my new house which is the second level of a older house. Having said that, the water pressure, especially out of the kitchen sink faucet is very low. I'm wondering if I could still use a portable dishwasher with low pressure and/or if this matters for different types. Obviously I would prefer a model where this wouldn't make a difference. So far, I've looked into the 18" Haier and the 17" Danby. I've also seen a couple larger floor units by GE. So, my question is, will a portable dishwasher work with low kitchen sink water pressure?

Sure, I run a well, low pressure, and has no effect. So go for it.

How do I hook up my portable dishwasher?

I just bought a used portable dishwasher. I bought an adapter for the faucet to hook up to the dishwasher and the hose for the dishwasher won't stay on. If I hold it on and turn the dishwasher on and the faucet, water just runs over the sides of the hose and none appears to be going into the machine. I know the dishwasher works, I just don't know how to make it work.

The hose from the dishwasher to the faucet should have some sort of quick release/ locking mechanism. Mine had a piece that I had to hold down (an outer ring on the top part of the hose) while putting it on the faucet then when I let it go it would lock in place. If I didn't get a good connection water would spray out or the pressure would knock the hose off. Check and make sure you have the right adapter for both the faucet and the dishwasher. You can do this buy taking all the pieces to your local hardware store(meaning the hose and the faucet adapter) they should be able to help you.

I know there is already a similar "resolved" question on the subject, but what I am asking is a bit different. I don't mean to use filtered water in my portable dishwasher, just wonder whether the plug would be compatible with the threads located under the filter.

In other words, can I use that faucet for the dishwasher without having to dissemble the filter every time (which would be a real pain) or do I need a separate water outlet?

Yes you can do this but remeber the plastic threads on the filter will strip very easy so be extremely careful when doing this.
