If I use a chest freezer for most of my food items, what can I use my regular freezer for? Just ice?
Oct 14, 2006 by lawilson2 | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
I just bought a chest freezer to have more capacity for frozen foods that I can store more long term. Now that I've transferred my items from my refrigerator's freezer to my chest freezer, nothing is left in the upright besides my ice trays. What do people use their regular freezer for if they have this other option?
use your freezer for the things you are going to use this week.. or get into often.. coffee beans.. ice cream.. open packages (frozen veggies, the easy foods that have been open, chicken nuggets, burritos (can you tell i have kids??) Popsicles.. for the adults.. vodka.. you will find you have things that you don't want to constantly go into your garage for.. put those in your freezer

Can you keep a chest freezer in an outbuilding?
Dec 27, 2006 by flycarchick | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
I need a freezer but do not have the room in my kitchen. What I do have however, is sort of conservatory that in the winter is very cold and in the summer is very hot.
I have heard that you can get fridges to use in extreme temperatures, is this also true with freezers? I am looking for a medium sized chest freezer but have had no luck in finding one in the UK to use in extreme temperatures. can I just use a normal chest freezer? Are they all suitable for this kind of use?
I've got a freezer in my garage and it works OK

What are the pros and cons of a chest freezer lined with metal instead of one lined with plastic?
Nov 14, 2006 by Meredith B | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
I'm considering buying a small chest freezer (7 cubic feet), but no salesman can give me a clear answer on whether metal or plastic-lined is better. I've heard that metal-lined freezers collect frost faster. Any thoughts?
Hello, my husband and I run cool room business (well he does I read cards lol) and his opinion is as follows: Metal conducts cold, plastic does not. Therefore if the metal is not sealed properly it will 'frost over'. Also the life of the freezer may be lessened due to the fact metal rusts and plastic does not. Plastic allows longevity of appliance as apposed to metal that will rust.
I hope this helps you make up your mind. Personally I would go for the plastic one as you will enjoy a much longer life of appliance.
Good Luck.
Blessings be yours in peace and light

How do I remove a small chest freezer from a room that was built around it??!?
Jan 14, 2008 by Micki | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
The previous owners of the house we just moved into, built a small room in the basement, around the chest freezer. There is no way the freezer can be removed without breaking down the walls and doing significant damage to the finished basement. Is there any way to have it removed/take it apart/ do something? Freezer looks to be about 15 years old and is in good shape. Is there someone I can call or can I do it myself? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
I think a few for details would make it clearer to offer some suggestions, however, chest freezers are built and sized to fit through regular-sized doorways. Otherwise that wouldn't fare well for those wishing to by one. Apparently, the "custom" room has a small doorway, yet I have no way of knowing how much clearnace you lack in getting the freezer out. Maybe you could just remove the door of the freezer and remove it that way.
Also, I think a good carpenter would be able to cut away a portion of your doorway and then repair it without any trouble. You could also probably disassemble part of the freezer frame, but avoid breaking or bending the copper tubing that contains the freon gas.
I personally would opt to open-up the doorway and then repair it after removing the freezer. Especially if you wish to keep the freezer for future use.
good luck

How does one troubleshoot a blocked coolant line in a chest freezer?
May 14, 2008 by Dan | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have a 5 year old small chest freezer I got second hand. When I plug it in I hear the compressor come on (it's fairly quiet) and I hear coolant circulating but only one part of the freezer gets cold at all. I suspect there is a blockage in the cooling coil running through the freezer. How does one go about un-blocking this?
You can buy a new freezer for less than the tools and equipment needed to do this.
