Deep freezer?

I want to get a deep freezer (about 7 cubic feet, maybe a bit bigger). I am in an apartment so it is goign to be stored in the closet (ghetto? haha I dont know.) I am wondering if they use a regular outlet, or if they have anything special to be installed. Thanks!

small freezers run on 120 volt standard household plugs,,,not a problem for you.
What is a problem for you is where you intend to keep this freezer. They are like refrigerators. They need air circulation to expel the heat into the atmosphere. A closet is just not going to get it.

Does a deep freezer need to be ventilated?

My Mother has recently moved and has had to put her deep freezer in a small closet outside her apartment. Someone told her that she needed to leave the door cracked because the freezer gave off heat and, without ventilation, could damage it. Is this true? Would it not have enough ventilation from the crack at the botton of the door to the concrete?

A freezer works the same way as your refrigerator, so, yes, it will give off some heat as it runs. I doubt very seriously this will be a problem during cold months, but during summer, that storage closet could get very hot indeed.

I'd explore options with the apartment management. Some possibilities would be to install a vent (like a dryer vent) to the outside, thru a wall, install a vented grill in the door itself, or perhaps even replacing the door with a louvered door.

Some thought should also be given to moving the unit inside the apartment, not using it at all, or even using a smaller unit that will fit more conveniently inside the apartment.

Where do I buy a miniature deep freezer?

I am crazy about dip-n-dots icecream. The dip-n-dots look like little balls because the temperature that they are stored at makes them that way. I want to buy dip-n-dots by the pound, and I know how, but I need a deep freezer to store them in, but I dont have room for one thats bigger than the size of a miniature fridge.

Try Wal-Mart.

I've had my deep freezer for 2 years and I know it needs to be defrosted but I'm not sure how to do it or what to do with everything in it. I always have it quite full. It's a small/medium sized one.
There is too much stuff to fit in my two coolers.

Well sounds like me and you are in the same boat..I also have a freezer I have to defrost..And it isn't always easy.I move all stuff in the freezer to the bottom.And then I use a ice pick and hammer to bust out the ice ..That way it comes out in big chunks and I just put it in the sink to melt.The stuff won't defrost that quick if you do it all at once..Then I sometime use a blow dryer when it's not real bad like every 2 months or sooner but If I get lazy and the ice gets really bad I use a ice pick..Just remember the food in it won't melt to fast but if you leave heavy ice in it..It will cause freezer burn and it will run your electric bill up.Cause the freezer will not be working properly..Oh and one more plus if you have ice cream in there ..You get to have a ice cream party before the work...Hope this helps..Oh one more think before using a hair dryer make sure to unplug the freezer and keep the hair dryer and cord away from the water and ice..Good luck Melody

I'm evacuated from hurricane ike and my power has been out for 4 days. I have a deep freezer full of food and i want to know how rotten and smelly the food will be when im able to go home

None of it will be good by the time you get home. If your freezer is packed, then it might stay cold for 24 hrs. or so; if it's only half-full (or less) it will thaw even faster. But, the cost of the food is probably included in your homeowner's insurance policy..... So, you're probably my "neighbor" now (I live north of Dallas). I hope you find everything else, except that freezer, in good condition when you get home:)
