How do you clean a fry daddy with nonstick surface when you can't use SOS pads?
We have a fry daddy that has a lid that closes and the basket that lowers. The top lid can be taken off, the non-stick "bowl" can come out, as can the basket. They are all coated with oil, some yellow and sticky and some black. Very dirty. Works great but desperately needs cleaned and it will not come off with soaking.
I can't use anything abrasive on it since it's got a nonstick surface. And the basket has all those tiny holes in it so it's impossible to get anything inside it. I have tried sticking the parts that allowed to go through the dishwasher but it still is discusting. Any thoughts?
This is the model I have - http://www.stuffiti.com/prodimages/Presto-05444-CoolDaddy-Cool-Touch-Electric-Deep-Fryer.jpg
Here is a picture of the non-stick bucket and the basket where oil is clogged all in the holes: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B00006IUWE/ref=dp_otherviews_2?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&img=2
what should i deep fry?!!?!?!?
my mom just got a deep fryer and i can think of anything to deep fry besides candy bars?
any yuummy ideas (that are actualy good that you have tried)
Fries! Potato chips! (both cut from your own potatoes of course)
Chicken wings--oooh, my favorite. Or whole chicken cut up into pieces, coat with flour with salt, pepper and cayenne pepper, then dip in egg / milk mixture then dip into panko bread crumbs or crushed corn flakes. You'll never want KFC again. Same style works great for chicken tenders too. Cook to internal temp of about 200 degrees, 180 is safe but 200 tastes better and will render out more of the fat. That hits on one more thing you'll want to get, you'll need a digital thermometer that you can poke inside things so you know when they're done without having to cut through the delicious fried crust you've created with your fryer.
Pizza rolls are interesting when fried, do them really hot and fast so they don't explode--not dangerous, but you'll lose all of the goodies inside. Dip 'em in ranch.
Onion rings, calamari, clam strips, shrimp, chicken tenders, oysters, veggies in tempura batter (made with rice flour.)
Those are pretty much my go to's with the fryer.
*******
Holy cow lilprincess 2 1/2 pounds of onions?! What is that the recipe for Chili's dinner rush? You'll be able to feed about 6 people onion rings for dinner with that much. I think two medium onions would be more than enough for a side dish of onion rings for a family of four. One onion makes a huge snack for two people. Not to mention each onion will take you at least ten minutes to cut, sort out the pieces, dredge, batter and fry.
Do you want this job?
deep fryer and grill, $9 an hour even with experience, surrounded by teenagers, dirty restaurant, history of thefts, employees who sexually harass other employees, risk of injury due to hot burns which are common, risk of injury due to spills, gossipy and pushy staff, have to do four written tests before first shift, watch tons of videos on a screen nine feet above the ground while sitting down, take trash out to bin on far end of parking lot, wear ugly polyester uniform, NO THANKS.
No, I'd prefer a post-construction cleaning contract at the local ski hill for myself and my wife along with my present bindery job at the local paper.

Help with deep fryer, grease in the air. yuck?
We just bought a small deep fryer, a fry daddy. It works great, except that my whole house now smells like grease, and I can seriously feel it on my face and it in my hair. It's winter here, so I can't open the windows. but is there anything I can do while frying to keep the grease from getting everywhere? Anyone have any old wives tricks?
Try using Peanut Oil. you can actually strain it and re-use a couple of times, plus it has a higher smoking point of temperature. Also, burn some scented candles. But I also agree with lifting the lid when you put the food in, and putting it right back on. My boyfriend loves to deep fry, and I hate it cause of the smell and the taste, so he does all of the above to appease me. But I still won't eat it.
Good Luck.
