Homemade redneck hottub?
Saw this on "My big redneck wedding" and think it can be done for real
How would you go about making a hottub out of a galvanized livestock water tank???
The biggest question would be the hot water.
I guess the "right" way to do it would be to have a plumber run a exterior hot water line outside.
How much might that cost???
I wonder if you can use your propane turkey fryer to heat up the bottom of the tank. Then there are issues with burning as the metal on the bottom of the tank will be hot. I wonder how you might avoid that problem?
And finally, the bubbles. Any thoughts besides a leaf blower because that's just death waiting to happen???
Alright, I think, yup I got it. This is just my kinda thing, I love this stuff. Ok, for the bubbles I am thinking shop vac, just put the hose in the blower side, and of course plug the vac into a surge protected outlet. And to hook it up to the tank, how about a bar sink drain, its made for a small hole and to create a water tight seal in thin metal. I imagine if you loop the hose from the bar sink drain up above the flood level rim of the tank and then back down to the vac, you won't have to worry about water draining to to vac. Now the water heat. My idea is that you should find a very small electric water heater, you can find a 5 gallon one pretty cheap, maybe even at a garage sale. If you can find a way to hoist the tub higher than the heater, get 2 more bar sink drains, spend some time at the hardware store, adapt the drains to hose thread connect one hose to the water heater drain and the other hose to the hot outlet on the water heater. Also put a valve on the cold inlet. I guarentee you it will keep your water in the tank hot. I would just put those 2 bar sink drains on eather side of the tank. I do this in regular hot water circulation circumstanses, when the water heater is on, the hot water rises, in this case since the water heater will be under the tank the hot water will rise to it, naturally moving cold water back to the water heater in the return line. Sweet huh? So then all you would have to do is fill the tank with water from a hose, open the valve on the cold side of the heater until water comes out, plug the heater in, and in about a day, the tank should be hot, and stay hot. As for insulating it, that's easy, just build a big box for the tub, shove a bunch of fiberglass batts of insulation in there and then just set the tank in. Then maybe a big sheet of treated plywood for a cover. Nice.
Should I thaw a turkey before I drop it in the deep fryer?
Or will I be missing some beard?

how to preserve deep fryer oil. Where to buy inexpensive deep fryer avocado oil?
Bought turkey deep fryer for in-laws. I know that most folks use peanut or canola oil but read that advocado oil is much better because smoke point is over 500 degrees and it is full of good stuff.
But it is so expensive! So, what are best ways to preserve the oil after each use so that we can reuse the oil a lot but not daily?
Also, where can one buy 4 or 5 gallon containers of high temp cooking oil for less. Thanks, Happy New Year. Bob
You can only reuse it up to 3 or 4 times. I don't believe you can find avocado oil cheap enough in any case. I could google but you already did probably. In my town we have a store called Pacific Food Importers that sells that kind of stuff in bulk and cheap. but you did not say where you are so that does not help.
120 bucks a gallon is the "cheapest" i found it. There are people that sell it in 5 gallon "buckets" but they do not list prices since it is a commodity. The same oil is used in cosmetics so it has changing commodity pricing. You have to email them.
Peanut oil, anyone? It also seems no-one uses it much for deep frying due to the cost. More for salad dressing and whipped into mash potatoes etc. It does have the highest cooking point of the veg oils but is used in specific smaller batch foods not turkeys unless you are Donald Trump.
Can you bake a turkey and a ham at the same time?
HI,
I was just trying to figure out if I can roast my 25 lb turkey, and then pop in a ham after 3 hours into the oven. Would the tukey and the ham cook through all the way? Would the cooking times have to be adjusted at all...say longer because of a lack of heat flow? I only have one oven unfortunately nor do I have a deep fryer or else I would fry up the turkey and bake the ham.
Any suggestions? My ham is only 8 lbs and it says to bake 13- 15 minutes per lb at 350. Thank you for your comments and MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
I don't know how long to cook the turkey for...just until it registers 165 F in breast and 180 in the thigh...
The best way I like to bake a turkey is to use a cooking bag.If your oven is large enough to hold both then go ahead. Most hams are pre cooked and you only need to warm them up and they can dry out if baked to long. Also I buy a turkey with the thing that pops out to tell me it is done. Your 25 lb. turkey will need to cook at least 31/2 hours or untill the dark meat is done.
What's Better: Electric Turkey Fryer, Oil Turkey Fryer, or Infra-Red/Char Broiling Fryer?
Answers from people with exp only please.
I'm trying to figure out which one works the best. I've eaten turkey from an oil/propane fryer and it was so good but I read bad stuff about it online. I've only heard of one electric fryer but does it still use oil? Are the results still the same? (Cook in less time as well?) And I don't know much about the infra-red/char-broil kind... Are they at all like the first 2 I mentioned?
Thank you!!!
Oil is the best. Those horror stories come from people who didn't follow the safety directions. The fryer will explode if the turkey's not thawed, but as long as you thaw the turkey, there will be no explosion. Like magic, right? Anyways, use this recipe (linked) in your oil fryer and you will have your answer.
