Can anyone recommend an apartment complex in the Plano, McKinney or Frisco area?
Dec 07, 2008 by whiskeyman510 | Posted in Dallas
Please only answer if you are or have lived in an apartment somewhere in the North Dallas area. I posted this before and didn't exactly what I'm looking for.
I don't need links to generic rental sites or comments about the area as I already work there and am familiar with the area. I just want to live closer to work and to save money from the area of Dallas where we live currently.
I am looking for an apartment complex with as many of the following things as possible:
1. family friendly
2. we care more about the quality and size of the apartment than communal amenities.
3. need a playground & pool
4. At least 1 car garage, attached preferred
5. 3 bedroom / 2 bath or larger, ideally 1 level
6. the more wood or tile flooring the better
7. I know gas in apartment complexes is a rarity, but gas is a plus, or at least the radiant smooth surface electrics
7. a good sized patio is a plus
8. A place that is lax on enforcing the rule about no BBQ grills on patios
9. Under $1600/month
10. Is pet friendly for cats
If you have lived in an apartment complex anywhere in the North Dallas, Plano or Frisco area or are in the same situation and are looking, I would appreciate some personal recommendations.
Thanks!

gas level indicator on 100 gL. propane tank?
Nov 22, 2008 by blacklablover95 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
can i use a propane gas level indictor on a 100 gallon propane tank used for a home fire place?
(i think the one i have is only for 20 pound BBQ grill W/ a quick disconnect fiting)
If you are talking about an in-line pressure gauge, they are useless. The pressure in a propane container varies with temperature and is completely independant of volume. The only accurate gauges are actual float gauges. Most tanks of 123uswg or larger use them. Cylinders of 100lbs or less do not. On a 100uswg tank there should be a gauge under the dome cover. 80% is full...
The other way to tell with portable cylinders is to weigh them. If you look at the collar of the cylinder you will see T#.# if it is metric or TW##.# if it is imperial. This is the "tare weight" or the weight of the cylinder with no fuel in it. Subtract this number from the total weight of the cylinder and you will know how much fuel remains.

What's the best kind of smoker box for a gas bbq grill?
Nov 21, 2008 by Jikaru | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
What's the best kind of smoker box for a gas bbq grill? Ceramic, Stainless Steel or Cast Iron?
Thank you!
Any of those boxes work, it just depending on the application duration, if you're plans are a long smoke using chunks then the box is out, short smoking with chips is what the boxes are used for. Personally I smoke most items more then 30 minutes and found the "boxes" are a waste of time and money, I use two different things, heavy duty foil pouches with holes punched in them and/or a #1 or #2 tin can with holes punched in the bottom.

Can I cook a 22lb turkey on a gas grill / BBQ? ?
Nov 19, 2008 by Alan | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
I need to cook a 20-22lb bird on my gas BBQ. How can I cook such a large bird without it becoming dry? Do I need to cover it with aluminum foil? What temp and for how long? Any receipts and advice for injecting flavors would be great too. I’d like to know the largest bird you’ve grilled, how it turned out and if you’d do it again.
Yes, you can, but you really need to use INdirect heat... light one side of grill, but put turkey on the other. Start it breast side down, then flip about half-way thru cooking. You REALLY need a meat thermometer to be sure it's done. A pan of water in there wouldn't hurt it staying moist, either.

Another Gas Grill Question... Is it Normal?
Nov 08, 2008 by ~Ang~ | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
For a gas grill to flame up every time the chicken or sausage drips, so high that I have to constantly keep spraying it with water to put the flame out? I couldn't close the lid for more then a minute without it flaming up and needing to be sprayed. I finally had to turn off both side burners and leave only the center burner on to finish. I want to bring this crappy gas grill back and get a charcoal one (which I wanted in the first place) but have to convince 4 others before I can do that. Help me!!
I've heard it said many times that people use gas grills for convenience, but there was nothing convenient or enjoyable about cooking on this one. Not to mention there was no bbq flavor to the food at all.
It's normal for any grill to flare up occasionally, particularly when you're grilling fatty foods, like sausage or (skin-on) chicken. A gas grill will flare up more often and more readily, because there's actual open flame, not just smoldering coals.
A couple of suggestions, aside from entirely replacing your grill: You might try some "lava rocks" which can be purchased at almost any store that sells grills. They're actual nuggets of pumice (volcanic rock) that act as heat diffusers, grease trappers, and flavor enhancers. The porous surface traps grease drippings, and the grease in turn flavors the foods you cook.
Also, you could throw a couple of briquettes of charcoal (like, 3 or 4) into your gas grill. They'll add some legitimate bbq flavor, and a 10-pound bag of briquettes will last a whole season.
