Can I hook up my propane grill to the gas line on my porch?

The new house I moved into has a connector on the porch to hook up a grill. The gas man said it has to be a special natural gas burning grill. My dad says "Gas is Gas". Which one is correct?

No...Gas is not Gas!

Propane and Natural Gas burn at different pressures and have different btu values.

If you have an expensive propane BBQ it might be worth contacting the manufacturer to get a conversion kit. Some people may tell you to get different orifices and install them yourself. Well...Don't! You need the proper conversion kit, because it will also contain a rating plate for that BBQ for natural gas. If you don't have this, and that bbq is involved in any kind of fire or injury, the manufacturer will take no responsibility because you have "altered" the appliance. Also insurance companies have denied claims for damages because of this very reason. If it's a cheapy model you are probably better off to just buy a new one set up for natural gas.

Problem with natural gas forced air furnace, please help!?

I have a natural gas forced air furnace. The only thing I know about it, is that it's a split HVAC system, and it's made by Ruud. This is what happens. I go over to the thermostat and turn the switch to HEAT, and turn the temperature up to 80 degrees (the current temp was 65). Then I climb up the ladder and poke my head into the attic to watch what happens. The unit starts to make a quiet noise, and through the grill I can see a bright orange glow coming thru. It gets brighter and brighter, then I hear a loud CLICK, and I hear gas flow, and I hear it ignite. The orange glow then disappears. The blower turns on a few seconds later, and warm air starts blowing out the vents. Everything seems normal up to this point, until about 5 to 10 minutes later, I hear the loud CLICK again, and the gas shuts off, and I can hear that the flame is not burning anymore, but the blower is still on. The air coming out the vents has lost its warmth, and 5 minutes later, the blower shuts off. About 3 minutes later, it repeats the same thing I have described all over again. It will continue to operate like this until I shut it down at the thermostat. I know exactly how thermostats work, and I know it is working properly. So even though the thermostat is telling my furnace to provide heat, it is doing this weird thing of cycling on and off. My home warms up, but very slowly. Any ideas??? I am not afraid to crawl up in my attic if there is something I need to check.

sounds like its the thermocouple. it is a thin wire-like or tubular device that sits in the flame to tell the furnace a flame is present, the two dissimilar metals create a small voltage. the soot will slow or stop the signal, so if you rub it with something abrasive like steel wool or sand paper to clean it and place it back in the position it was in or slightly closer to the flame, i'm not sure if goes directly in the flame, check it before you move it.

if there is no flame signal, for safety, the gas valve will close and shut off your furnace. the blower stays on for 1 to 3 minutes after the flame stops to cool off the hot parts and because its not up to temp. your thermostat turns it back on.

if that's not it, all i can think is the solenoid (the electrical coil that shifts the gas valve) may be going bad . thats the loud CLICK

that orange glow is the glow plug, made of ceramic it acts like light bulb, don't touch it, its very fragile and the oil from your hands can burn it up, electricity flows through the ceramic and makes it glow orange hot and light the gas burners

good luck

Balancing Equation HELP PLEASE CLICK HERE!?

heres the problem...

Propane, C(3)H(8), a liquid at 25 dg under high pressure, is often used for gas grills and as a fuel in rural areas where there is no natural gas pipeline. When liquid propane is released from its storage tan, it changes to propane gas that reacts with oxygen gas (it "burns") to give gaseous carbon dioxide and gaseous water. Write and balance the equation for this reaction.

C₃H₈ (l) + 5O₂ (g) ---> 3CO₂ (g) + 4H₂O (g)

how to hookup a natural gas grill?

OF COURSE you can use natural gas with a grill; you just have to have a licensed gasfitter replace a few parts. Some grills ship with a conversion kit that contains the parts you'll need; with others, you have to order the parts from the manufacturer.

I say "licensed gasfitter" because it may very well be illegal in your part of the world to do any of this yourself, and by illegal I mean criminal-charges illegal. Where I live only licensed gasfitters are permitted to run gas lines, connect appliances, or modify them: if you do it yourself, you can end up in provincial jail for six months. (That's if your amateur gasfitting doesn't result in someone being killed; if that happens, you could end up with a manslaughter conviction and 15 years in federal prison.)

What size BBQ grill cover do I need??

I have a Kenmore Natural Gas 5 burner grill- not sure of the dimensions but need a new cover. Anyone??

You might want to measure that grill before you go to Lowes Depot or sears to get one because they are all kinda "universal fit" and are marked with the largest dimension that they will fit.
I can tell you that you should look for one that is breathable fabric and not vinyl, or it will help your grill rust itself to death.
