I have been looking at gas grills for a Christmas present. Obviously Weber is top of the line if you can pay $600 for their low end. I have seen mixed reviews on Charmglow, Fiesta Blue Ember, etc. So any suggestions????
I will tell you, when you ask me with: ( I want to know a good gas grill for about $ 300?)

Has anyone used the Weber Char Q Charcoal Grill - 616002? Does it take long to get ready to cook on?

We're going camping this weekend and I've gone and bought one of these BBQs so we don't have to cart a gas bottle around but I'm now concerned because a friend of mine says it will take an hour to heat up!
charcoal does not take that long to heat up. There are bags of charcoal you can buy that have the lighter fluid already in them. you simply place the entire bag in the grill and light the whole bag. It will take about 15-20 minutes to be ready. Wait until the coals are glowing red. Trust me, the taste of charcoal is worth the extra effort.

Have LP grill with male POL connector to the tank. Tanks are now Type 1. How do I convert male POL to Type 1?

Weber LP gas grill about 15 years old that has a male POL connection to the propane tank (old style tank) All new propane tanks seem to be a Type 1 connection. I'd like to convert the the grill's male POL connector to the connect to the new style type 1 propane tanks. I'm guessing that requires a female POL to female Type 1 adapter? How do I make the conversion? BTW - The connector on the grill is not a screwed onto the burner piping - it's actually looks like some sort of crimped on connection -- so its seem like it would be difficult to change the grill's connection.
what temperature is "medium" on a gas grill. i have a weber summit?

It would be around 350 F. Most gas grills are only marked Low, Medium, High so recipes are written that way. But the intended temp is the same as for an oven.

Can a gas-fired Weber grill function as a BBQ Smoker?

If so, how?
yes just turn one side off, put the meat on the cold side. put some wood chips in foil, seal the foil, poke holes in the foil, and put on the flame. cook on low till meat is done with cover closed
