Can you still use an electric ice cream maker if you have lost the lid?
May 25, 2008 by Pink Cowgirl | Posted in Other - Food & Drink
I just pulled out my electric ice cream maker and noticed the clear plastic lid is gone. I have the padle, the outside and inside containers, and the motor, but not the lid for the inner container. I was going to make ice cream for tomorrow but I don't know if I should try to use it without the lid. Would aluminum foil work as a temporary fix?
If I'm not mistaken, the lid holds the dasher in place while the freezer part turns on the base (I have a Krups electric ice cream maker and that's how mine works), so you probably can't.

I have a 4qt electric ice cream maker. Can I make just 1.5 quarts of ice cream instead 4?
Sep 26, 2007 by gg | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
I only have enough ingredients to make 1.5 quarts.
Will it turn out bad if I don't fill up the canister to capacity?
So long as 1.5 quarts will get well stirred by the blades it should be fine. If the mixture only just touches the blades - or worse, not at all - then no, it isn't going to work properly.
Some machines seem to have different stirring designs - and not all of them seem to go right down to the bottom - presumably the churning further up manages to mix the stuff lower down - not sure.
As for "turning out bad" - it isn't going to make it foul tasting or toxic - it may just not be as light and fluffy as it should be if it isn't stirred properly.

How do I make homemade ice cream with an electric ice cream maker?
Jun 25, 2006 by Byron A | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
Home made ice cream
1 - 2 liter bottle of soda (strawberry, peach, ect.)
2 cans sweetened condensed milk
Pour together in ice cream maker. Layer ice and rock salt around the out side. Get it going.
My ice cream maker didn't stop on its own, if yours doesn't either, it will take any where from 10-20 minutes. This is a very sweet ice cream, but it's good.

Homemade Ice Cream; How do you put a chocolate ripple in with an electric ice cream maker?
Dec 09, 2007 by tockerz57 | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
The other David is correct, make your ice cream in the ice cream maker. Then remove the ice cream and put your chocolate or what ever you want to make the ripple out of on top of the ice cream. Then gently fold in the sauce just a little bit so you still have ribbons of sauce in the ice cream. You're not mixing in the sauce just distributing it through the ice cream. Then cover tightly and freeze in your freezer for 1 to 4 hours, depending on the recipe before serving to your guests.
