Ice cream recipe without ice cream maker?
Jul 05, 2007 by Saman | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
Can you make ice cream without the ice cream maker? If yes, can someone please give me a recipe. I would like it even more if it is without the 2 bags method. Thanks in advance.
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon sugar
4 cups crushed ice
4 tablespoons salt
2 quart size Zip-loc bags
1 gallon size Zip-loc freezer bag
a hand towel or gloves to keep fingers from freezing as well!
Mix the milk, vanilla and sugar together in one of the quart size bags. Seal tightly, allowing as little air to remain in the bag as possible. Too much air left inside may force the bag open during shaking. Place this bag inside the other quart size bag, again leaving as little air inside as possible and sealing well. By double-bagging, the risk of salt and ice leaking into the ice cream is minimized. Put the two bags inside the gallon size bag and fill the bag with ice, then sprinkle salt on top. Again let all the air escape and seal the bag. Wrap the bag in the towel or put your gloves on, and shake and massage the bag, making sure the ice surrounds the cream mixture. Five to eight minutes is adequate time for the mixture to freeze into ice cream.

How do you make ice cream with hand crank maker?
Apr 15, 2007 by johnsmom326 | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
I got a hand crank Ice Cream Maker for my anniversary. I would love to make home made ice cream and need a recipe. What I'm supposed to do with this recipe would be good too. I've never made home made ice cream and would love to try it.
I would have read the instuction book if it came with one!
Homemade Ice Cream Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe
Here are two different kinds of recipe for Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. The first is made with a custard base (eggs and cream) and the second is a 'quick' recipe ideal for kids!
Custard base recipe
Ingredients:
4 egg yolks, 1/2 pint (250ml) milk, 1/2 pint (250ml) double/heavy cream, 4 oz (100g) sugar or caster sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (or according to taste - everyone's different!)
First of all scald the milk (bring slowly up to boiling point in a saucepan). Separately, mix together the egg yolks and sugar until thick. Pour into this the hot milk, whilst continuously stirring. Then pour the mixture back into the pan and heat gently, stirring until the custard thickens - DO NOT BRING TO THE BOIL OR IT WILL PROBABLY CURDLE. When you can see a film form over the back of your spoon it's time to remove the saucepan from the heat. Leave to cool. This is the custard base and one you can use in many other recipes. When the custard base is cold, stir in the cream and vanilla extract, then transfer the whole mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream recipe for kids (or anyone wanting something quick and delicious!)
Ingredients:
1/2 pint (250ml) single/light cream, small tin of condensed milk, 1-2 teaspoons vanilla extract (according to taste) Pour all ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix until smooth. Transfer the whole mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions.

How do you make rocky road ice cream without an ice cream maker?
Dec 13, 2006 by Lisa | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
I want to make Rocky Road ice cream but dont have an ice cream maker . Anyone got a good recipe for this? Or any ice cream??
Found this online. But I actually did it a few years ago in summer school (chemistry):
Materials List PER GROUP of 3.
240 ml milk. Use chocolate is you want. Use skim or 1% as a preference. I choose the whole fat milk, myself. Why eat ice cream if it isn't going to clog an artery or three?
35 ml sugar. Preference is BROWN sugar.
0.25 tsp vanilla. That's 1.5 ml for us SI fans...
Chocolate Chips, almonds, walnuts, pralines, oreo cookies, fudge, peanut butter, liver, tofu or any other optional flavor.
45 ml rock salt. Yep, the stuff you melt snow with.
Ice. cubed or crushed.
3.8 L ZipLoc freezer bag. That's a gallon...
0.95 L ZipLoc. That's a quart...
Cups to eat final product. 4 or 6 oz Dixie's work fine.
Spoons. Unless you are a real slob...
Celcius thermometer. This IS a Science LAB after all.
Procedure:
Find a partner who showers frequently.
Cover the work area with paper unless you want to clean up alot of sticky stuff later.
Put the milk, sugar and vanilla (and optional flavoring) into the small ZipLoc. SECURELY zipper that bag!
Fill the large ZipLoc half way with ice.
Pour the rock salt into the bag. Take temperature reading.
Place the small bag into the large bag and SECURELY zipper this one, too.
Put on gloves, unless you are a real man, and get ready to witness a phase change.
Take turns flipping the bag. Hold the bag by its corners and keep the bag flipping over and over. This will take 10-15 minutes to freeze. Take the temp reading a few more times at 3 or 5 minute intervals.
When you have "solid" ice cream, remove the inner bag and rinse off with very cold water. DO NOT spend alot of time rinsing since this will melt the ice cream. A quik rinse is fine. Discard the outer bag and contents in trash bag. DO NOT DUMP IN SINK. Rock salt can hang around for a while and corrode old pipes.
You can definitely modify it as you see fit. Hope this helps!! :)
