When making ice-cream Why do you have to let it cool before putting it in the maker?
Dec 19, 2008 by lost lol sucky | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
i bought the aldi brand machine and it saiys to let the mixture i made cool for six hours... WHY ?
If your ice cream maker is one that uses a frozen insert rather than being a self refrigerating unit, I would imagine the icecream needs to be thoroughly chilled in order to get it to freezing point. If the mix is warm, you will not get enough chilling out of the insert to freeze the icecream.

Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker Question?
Dec 01, 2008 by My baby girl will be here in Feb | Posted in Beer, Wine & Spirits
So I bought myself one of these machines last night as my Christmas gift to myself. I tried it out with a cheap drink which was the strawberry daiquiri (virgin right now of course) but I was wondering how much ice to how much liquid. I guess it will take some getting use to. If I fill the ice thing on top up, then how much liquid should I put? I went by the recipe that was in the book and it didn't turn out, so I ended up adding more liquid because all it tasted like was ice. And if you have this machine what all can you do with it? And is there a recipe book that has all kinds of frozen drinks in it with and without the alcohol that you would recommend?
it was all icy because as soon as you put the alch in it the ice starts to melt... put let ice and more liquid if you are not putting any alchohol in there...
if you take a glass of ice cubes.. and poor 80 proof vodka on them.. the ice melts instantly... to little wattery cubes...

Solar Power advances for Sept. 2008
I have seen some very stimulating solar power articles so far this month. By far the most unusual are these solar balloons.

The article at Metaefficient.com presents a fair good case as to why these could be a good idea. In addition some other folks jibe consent to as the company Cool Earth just received $21 million in additional funding! The whole article is here: http://www.metaefficient.com/rumour/solar-balloons-get-21-million-in-funding.html
Excerpt: “They look like lamination party balloons, but they are actually very efficient solar concentrators. These solar “balloons” were developed by a following called Cool Earth, based in California, and it has just received $21 million dollars in investor funding. The Theatre troupe is now planning to build a 10-megawatt plant of solar balloons in the next yoke years. This power plant would be comprised of 10,000 balloons, and cover pitilessly 80 acres!”
The company website can be found here: http://www.coolearthsolar.com/faq
My vote for the upper-class humanitarian use of solar power technology is this solar ice maker. It isn’t waht you might dream as it has no moving parts and is an idea intended for disaster relief situations.

The whole article can be found on greenupgrader.com (http://greenupgrader.com/3680/solar-ice-maker-no-stirring-parts-no-electricity/)
Excerpt: “Intended for disaster relief situations, escapee camps, and developing nations the bright minds at San Jose State University have created an ice making machine that uses the inflame from sunlight to power a chemical reaction. What happens is the tubing (or heat exchanger) is filled with a limpid refrigerant material. The convex reflective panel focuses light and earnestness energy from the sun onto the piping which vaporizes the refrigerant. So far, no ice. When the sun goes down however the vapor goes through weighty heat loss due to pressure differences and roughly 14 pounds of ice are produced depending on the undertaking.“
