was worth the money...how does the ice cream taste...do you think its worth it?
I love my Kitchen Aid mixer but would not invest in the ice cream attachment. You will soon find that you don't use it all that often. Buy a seperate ice cream machine and clear a spot in the cupboard for it since thats where it will be most of the time. I would prefer the grinder attachment.

I want to buy an ice cream maker/freezer. I have a KitchenAid mixer, but I wonder if the motor won't get warm or worn out on the long freezing cycle? Anyone have any experience with this?
I just bought this attachment 6months ago and it is great!! I have made ice cream, sorbet and even margarita ice (similar to gelato) my machine is put through the paces as I make pasta, grind meat and even use it to make dough. The Kitchenaid is the best home mixer and my first lasted 20years - this is my second and i am sure it will last just as long. Good Luck!

HOMEMADE VANILLA ICE CREAM
2 qts. half & half
6 eggs
6 c. sugar
1 c. flour
Some vanilla extract
Some milk
Ice cream maker
2 (10 lb.) blocks crushed party ice
1 box rock salt
Mix sugar and flour by hand real good. Put under mixer on medium power. Add eggs. Then slowly pour half of half and half in at a time. Mix about 2 minutes. Add 5 capfuls of vanilla extract or to desired taste. Pour in ice cream freezer and top off with milk. Add lid and churning paddle. Carefully put in ice cream barrel and insert motor, turn on motor and add ice around sides then use rock salt to freeze the ice. NOTE: Read directions of ice cream maker before use.

the one that goes with the mixer
Coffee ice cream:
3 1/2 c whole milk
1 3/4 c heavy cream
4 egg yolks
1 c + 2 Tbsp sugar
3-4 Tbsp Instant coffee
In medium saucepan (at least 2 qt. but bigger helps) mix milk and cream. Warm until foam forms around edges. Remove from heat.
I large bowl (can use mixer) beat egg yolks and sugar until frothy (or creamy with soft peaks). Gradually pour warm milk into this mixture, whisking constantly. Return mixture to saucepan, cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with wooden spoon until the mixture gels slightly and coats the back of the spoon. If small egg lumps begin to show, remove from heat immediately. (You must stir contstantly or it will boil and boil over pretty fast).
Pour mixture through a sieve or fine strainer into a bowl.
Stir in three-4 heaping tablespoons of Instant coffee; taste as you add so you get an idea of the flavor (about 4). Cover and chill overnight or until proper tempature for Ice Cream Maker
Pour mixture into icecream maker per Kitchenaid instructions. (mix it for 15 minutes and then add dark chocolate M&M's) Transfer to a sealed container and freeze until firm (about 6-8 hours)
