How long should it take for my pressure cooker to build pressure?
Aug 29, 2008 by mjw_85 | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I have a mirro-matic pressure cooker that looks like its from the 40's, and i just tried to use it but the regulator wont rock after like 10min i turned the stove off. its a little scary
Check the rubber ring seal around the lid to make sure it isn't leaking.Always oil that ring.I had one stick and wasted a 10lb roast because I couldn't get the lid off(it stuck) On high(electric) it should take about 10 min if a lot of water in it If just a cup or so only 5 min.Too much water and the spout at the top will clog(then you have a real mess.

I have an old Mirro-Matic pressure cooker.?

I was making chana dahl and it dissolved and clogged the hole. The pressure cooker blew and now I need a replacement part. Theres a hole (not the one the weight fits on) on the lid where something goes. I was looking at parts online and I think I need an "over pressure plug". Does anyone know if that's what I need????
Yes that's what you need. Its a round plug that fits in the hole. I did that once and the thing blew up and embedded in the ceiling. I have been very cautious using the pressure cooker ever since.

Where can I get a handle for an old 8 QT Mirro Pressure Cooker, Model M-0398?
Jan 09, 2007 by pms240 | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
I love my old Mirro Pressure Cooker, but, one of the cover handles is broken. I would like to find a replacement handle, or, an old lid or cooker with a handle. I have searched the web to no avail. Guess I need to find somebody who has an old one, or, who might have old parts laying around. Thanks
Oh Girl! I thought I could give you an answer because I have an old Mirro PC but I was wrong. My pressure cooker is real old but the serial # starts with M-05***, and yours is M-03***. I still have my Mirro Book and it was, at that time owned by "Betty Crocker". That might give you a clue where to look. Yours may be one that can't be fixed --- sorry because I know how much I still love and use mine to can and cook with. We both may have to replace our favorite cookware ---- soon.
Good Luck!!

Canning Question?
Jan 01, 2007 by Nate 1000110001 | Posted in Other - Food & Drink
I recently purchased a mirro 4 qt pressure cooker. Although I did not really buy it for canning in particular I would like to know if this model can be used for canning. I bought it used for a few dollars & have no manuel for it & it only came with a 9 gram weight. I was told that this canner is only used for cooking & does not create enough pressure to seal the jars.
You may not be able to pressure can with it. But it could still be useful for canning with a hot-water bath. My grandmother always used this method for her pickles. You place the jars in the pot, covered in hot/boiling water for a certain amount of time (I wish I could tell you how long...but I don't remember), then remove them and leave them on the counter, covered in a towel, after a while the seals will pop down and your food will be preserved! Be sure you're using new seals and glass jars.

Pressure Cooker replacement gasket.?
Dec 12, 2006 by vanman2u | Posted in Other - Food & Drink
Does anyone know an online store I can order a replacement gasket for a Mirro 6 quart pressure cooker? Mirro does not sell replacement parts. Thank you.
Go to Yahoo search and type Mirro Pressure Cooker. It will give you the site addresses of many shops that sell the parts you want.

Pressure Cooker
I have been toying with the thought of getting one for several months but wavered because I could not decide whether I wanted one big enough for canning or one that i could use to cook slight meals for two or three. If they weren't so expensive and my storage space weren't so limited, I'd get two.
So today, on impulse, I went antiquing in Abilene and there was an old Mirro 4 qt. pressure cooker, with instruction enlist and perfectly good rubber gasket and round weight that goes on the top. The cost was $6.00. When I went to pay for it, they told me that everything in that booth was 20% off, so it was $4.80. The cooker looks like it was hardly ever used.
The booklet that came with it has recipes, but does anyone have any good ones? Any tips for using?
