Another Pressure Cooker Problem Please help?
Jan 01, 2009 by Roko | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
When cooking split peas, I was told to use a small sterling silver or glass bowl covered with aluminum or a glass top.
I was told any glass that is safe for the oven is safe for use in a pressure cooker.
So I got a small baking glass pot with glass top and was about to use it,
Then I find the baking glass pot directions say not to use it on the stove top. So is this still safe to use in the pressure cooker or not? Anybody with experience?
I don't want to use stainless steel because I can't find any small with top and I don't use aluminum because it's toxic.
Thanks
msjantas, the manual says not to cook split peas because they can clog the holes and cause the pressure to reach dangerous levels. It said to put a small stainless steel or glass bowl and cover with aluminum foil and then put it in the pressure cooker to cook. Water has to go in both containers and using glass requires a couple minutes extra cooking time.
I can only say this once:
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES EVER PUT GLASS IN A PRESSURE COOKER ON HEAT!!! :-o
First, glass (corningware, glass bakeware, etc.) has been known to explode due to temperature fluctuations. You can google this. There have been lawsuits and severe injuries. Glass/corningware can NEVER go on a stove top ever.
Next, while pressure cookers are getting safer, due to their nature of being a pressure cooker, they can still be very dangerous!!! My mom used them all the time, and one time while she was in the kitchen at the sink with the pressure cooker on the stove, the thing exploded. Literally, the lid broke off by itself and hit the ceiling and all the ingredients went flying. It almost gave her a heart attack. Imagine if there was glass in it.. oh my god.
Please don't EVER put glass in one.

Where can i find stackable separators for a 6 quart pressure cooker?
Dec 22, 2008 by Anita R | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
I have a Presto 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker. I’m looking for stackable separators (aluminum or stainless steel or other type that work in pressure cookers) that will fit my pressure cooker. My grandmother used to cook multiple items at once in the pressure cooker and I can't seem find anything like the stackable inserts/separators/pans/containers that she used to use in India. I’m not looking for the steamers that have holes in them but ones that are containers. I’m located in U.S.A. and hoping someone has some ideas of how to cook multiple items in the pressure cooker or where i could find separators.
My pressure cooker came with the divider for canning, but not stackable..haven't seen that. Anyway, try going to the Presto website and see if they sell it as an accessory. Good luck!

What do you call this coffee maker?
Dec 14, 2008 by screaming monk | Posted in Non-Alcoholic Drinks
I haven't seen these around for a few years. They are a small, 1 to 3 cup stainless steel and brass (or other golden alloy ) and are like a tiny pressure cooker. They look a bit like an hour glass in shape, maybe all of 6 inches high. What do you call these, and do they still make them ?
Anon-a-MISS > the closest to the design I have found is the Moka expresso maker. It seems to be based on the same principle but the one I used, many years ago, was smaller and silver and gold in colour. Really made great coffee and was fun to use though I forgot how to use one.
Is it one of these?????

Stainless steel pressure cooker?
Aug 28, 2008 by simi | Posted in Malaysia
what are the things to be considered in choosing a pressure cooker?
what brand would you suggest.
thank you...
The best kind of pressure cooker is the one with pressure gauge and a fuse, they are the safest. Any brand may do as long as they have the specifications that I've said.
Secondary is the availability of the parts when they breakdown. Mirromatic is excellent! I have one like that and I've been using it for almost ten years now.
Add'l Info:
Cast-aluminum cooking utensils are being discourage now worldwide because of its health hazard in prolonged use.
