What is the best cheese slicer?

We purchase 8 ounce blocks of cheese (Munster, mild cheddar, swiss....)We've bought several slicers with the thin wire but the wire always breaks or the roller next to the wire pops out. I tried another very costly one that didnt' have the wire but the cheese sticks to the blade. We tried using the cheese at room temperature and right out of the refrigerator but get the same results.

I"ve used those too and I ended up using a Pairing knife. just cut the cheese thin, sometimes it helps if you use a Hot knife ( dipped in hot water and the blade wiped off, then cut the cheese.).. I did find a marble slab cheese cutter with a handle and wire attached but I haven't had the time to try it, so I don't know if it works well or not..

What would you say my activity level is?

I can't decide if I should set my activity level at moderately or very active. I'd like to get some others' opinions. :)

I work 5 days a week. My job requires me on my feet for 7 hours a day (minusing the 1 hour in total for breaks). What classifies as "manual labor"? I work in a deli, therefore I'm constantly doing something - cooking, cleaning, slicing meats & cheese by hand (no automatic slicer lol), putting out stock, etc..

2-3 days a week I go to the gym for about an hour of some cardio activity. I mostly use the treadmill and elliptical, sometimes the bike. If I don't go to the gym, I do some light walking/jogging around my neighborhood for about a half hour.

1 day a week I try to get in some strength training to prevent losing muscle. I just lift free weights at home (10 lbs.), 10-12 reps each one time through, or use the resistance band. Takes me a total of about 10 minutes, not including stretching and warm ups.

So would you say I'm moderately active or very active according to my usual weekly routine?

P.S. - I ask this so I can determine what to set my level at on BMR/RMR calculators to figure out my calorie needs.

How can I order sandwhich meat in bulk?

I bought a meat slicer and I need to find how I can order those big boulders of sandwhich meat and cheese they have at the deli under the glass counters. They are the ones wrapped in plastic that usualy have a label on them. How can I order those for cheap?

Costco or BJ's or other price clubs.

What is the legal definition of a furnished apartment in Portland, Oregon?

I moved into a furnished apartment 1 week ago. In my living room, I have a couch and mismatching chair, but no coffee table/end tables. In my kitchen, I have cutting boards with no cutting knives; 4 wine bottle openers but no strainer; a cheese slicer but no toaster; 24 forks but only two bowls.
There are no screens in the windows and the box spring was broken so I have been sleeping on the floor for a week.
I am a graduate student that is paying a lot of money to rent this "furnished" apartment, but I feel it is inadequate. This is a student neighborhood, but the apartment does not have a study desk?
What legally comes with a "furnished apartment"? How long do they have to fulfill my request? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
The landlords kept repeating "if you need anything just let us know" over and over when I first looked at the house and when I was signing the lease. But how long do they have to get me the furniture that they told me they would get?
Also, there are no screens in the windows and no hot water in the bathroom sink. I'm pretty sure they need to fix those asap.

Whatever was in the apartment when you looked at it and decided to rent it is all they are required to provide, you might want to consider patronizing some yard sales or a mission store where you can pick up the items in question at very little cost, as far as the Mattress you should discuss it with the landlord and try to work out a deal for a different one.~

are food stores allowed by the FDA to use the same slicers to slice meats and cheeses?

The FDA has no say in the use of slicers, it is determined by the local health departments and as long as the blade and all cutting and other surfaces are cleaned and sanitized between each use, then yes, the same slicers can be used to slice both meats and cheeses as long as no raw meat is being sliced or coming into contact with the slicers.
