How do I get wrinkles out of this fabric..?
Jan 21, 2009 by Beefcake The Mighty | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
Ok so I bought the starlight papasan cradle swing and there are extreme wrinkles in the canopy part and I have no idea how to get them out. I was going to try some wrinkle release fabric stuff, but i don't think it would work and plus i don't want it to be too strong for my newborn... any tips?
I don't have a steamer and I'm afraid an iron will melt the fabric.

I think its like a sheer polyester? i'm not too sure though. Thanks!
You cant put this in the dryer. I would rather a more natural way.

I need good ideas for removing wall paper. I have tried everything that I can think of!?

We have been trying to remove wallpaper for a while now, and have not had much luck in one room. The MORONS who lived here years before we moved in put layers on top of layers. We have gotten all but the bottom layer off. We have a steamer, in fact 3 different types, we have used Diff wallpaper remover spray, and the fabric softener. We have even tried a palm sander on one part, but that wasn't much help either. I am out of ideas. And when I say that it is not coming off I mean it is like they Super Glued it to the wall. Any advice would be greatly helped.
We really do not want to have to replace the drywall due to cost and already having put it up in to other rooms.
We have used the scoring tool thing. We have put many little holes in the paper.
Can I hand wash acetate fabric?
Oct 30, 2008 by MT | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
I have a Halloween costume that I am borrowing. It was really wrinkled so I tried steaming it with my steamer. It was shooting out hot water so it made some spots on the pink fabric of acetate. it says dry clean only, does anyone know if I can just wash it with cold water and no detergent to get the white water spots out?
No, don't use water at all. You will ruin the material.
Acetate really does need drycleaning, though you don't have to send it to a professional drycleaners. There are several very good do-it-yourself dry cleaning alternative products available in the grocery store detergent aisle. Dryel is the most popular, and works very very well in your dryer. It comes with spot cleaning pads to clean up blotches as well as complete instructions.
The trick with using a home drycleaning kit is to remove the garment from the tumbling bag immediately and shake it out to prevent wrinkling.

i need a garmet/fabric steamer for my clothes, any suggestions?
Oct 21, 2008 by aNaP | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
I recommend the Rowenta. I bought and returned the Conair because it was such a disappointment. The Rowenta has a bigger tank which means you don't have to keep refilling it in the middle of a garment. The Conair sputtered and left water marks on garments and draperies while the Rowenta gives even steam without sputtering. The Rowenta does a better job on heavier fabrics to steam out the wrinkles without saturating the fabric. Overall, it is a better steamer, is more versatile and works for draperies, upholstery and garments much better than the Conair did.

What is a Fabric Steamer?
Commercial fabric steamers have been elbow since the early 1900s, but compact models are a fairly modern invention. It is said the object for a small fabric steamer came about because of the popularity of men’s hats during the 1940s. At that time, many people hardened a teakettle to steam wrinkles out of their favorite fedoras. But the invention of the fabric steamer changed all that. No longer did people have to slavey over a hot iron or teakettle to remove creases.
Today’s fabric steamer comes in three focal sizes: the commercial floor models used at dry cleaners and manufacturing plants; the mid-sized models for competent in or small businesses such as tailors or seamstresses; and the most recent evolution of the fabric streamer–the mini fabric steamers utilized for quick touch ups and travel.
A fabric steamer uses steam rather than heat to remove wrinkles. The steam, and minimize pressure of the steamer’s surface, relaxes the fibers rather than flattening them. Because of this process, using a fabric steamer is gentler on clothing, faster than using an iron, and eliminates sweltering.
The fabric steamer is ideal for use on napped fabric, such as velvets and velveteen. A traditional iron will crush the nap, unless cast-off with a needle board, but the fabric steamer doesn’t exert pressure, preserving the extravagant look and feel of any material. Even very delicate materials, such as satins and silks, aid from the gentle care of a fabric steamer.
The newer portable-sized fabric steamer is a must for the savvy traveler. It eliminates the hassle of requesting an ironing feed, or sending clothes to the valet to be pressed. A travel fabric steamer is lightweight and fits effortlessly into your luggage. Having it handy will ensure you look sharp at any business joining you attend.
