I don't think cooking or reheating any food in the microwave oven is healthy. I have read quite a few studies on microwave cooking, and noted that Russia banned the use of microwave ovens in the 1970's because their studies showed that foods processed in the microwave oven in any way, thawing, reheating, or cooking, causes the molecules in the foods to become carcinogenic. How should I handle my brother?
Jan 17, 2009 by twirlerjen04 | Posted in Family
My husband (23), my son (2) and I (22) have a two bedroom apartment. I'm expecting a baby in a little over a month. In the same town, my brother (24) was going to college and had his own dorm. He knew the entire fall semester that his bill had not been paid and that he was going to lose his dorm at the end of the semester if he didn't do something about it. All he had to do was fill out the right financial aid paperwork and he would have gotten enough grants to cover it. Instead he put it off and lost his dorm. His fiance (19) also lost her dorm because she had not filled out the paperwork. I told them that they were welcome here on a couple conditions : they bought their own food, cleaned up after themselves, and were actively trying to find another place to live. I don't think it was unreasonable at all to ask that. Now they've been staying with us for almost a month and I'm miserable. They are slobs! I am constantly having to pick up nasty messes because they won't. I can't leave the messes for them because I don't want my son in such gross conditions. They eat my food and expect to eat dinner when I only prepare enough for my husband, son and myself. We can't afford to feed two more adults! They looked at one apartment in the beginning, got denied, and then spent all of their money. My husband was generous enough to get them both jobs at the dealership he works for and when they get paid, they blow their money instead of saving it for a deposit on their own place. Yesterday they came home with a $60 vegetable steamer and a $50 blender! Today they are talking about buying a new LCD TV. I feel completely taken advantage of, and I really can't take anymore of the stress they are causing....I'm 8 months pregnant...I don't need it!! My husband and I are considering giving them a date they have to be out by, but I'm not sure how long we should give them. Also, is there any way that I could even enforce that date, or will they just blow it off like they have everything else? They could move back into the dorms now that their bills have been paid, so it isn't like I'm kicking them out on the street. They just don't want to live in the dorms because they aren't allowed to room together. I know he's family, but does that give him a right to walk all over me like this?
Yes. He is family-she is not. Family or not you and your immediate family are not doormats!!!! They go now!! They have taken complete advantage of you. They have no intention of stopping. So what if they can not live together in the dorms. You are not their mother and your husband is not their father-if either of you were-this would never have been an issue. Aside from these facts these two people are adults. Treat them as such and throw their butts out. Either you rent or you are purchasing your home. Either way neither of their names are on any paperwork for this home-RIGHT? Of-Course right! they go now! If there are any problems "evicting" them the police can be called and assist you in making their situation clear to them.
It is a d%*n shame that families believe they can treat each other like they do, however, if you and your husband do not learn how to enforce basic boundries: you, your husband, your son and that baby that is about to come into this world will be walked on all of your lives and I believe that is not the kind of life you intended for either of your children even if you and your husband are willing to bend over and take a few for the sake of "family".

Yes, Birdseye "Steamfresh" Singles. I like the brussels sprouts. There's no sauce, just the plain veggies.

Dec 09, 2008 by umhuda | Posted in Vegetarian & Vegan
you just need to use a big pot, fill it 3 - 4 inches deep with water and boil - then place your veggies in a collander and ensure the collander does not touch the water. done !
