just put my heat on for the first time since last christmas?

havent really needed it much because i live in florida. but its freezing so i turned it on:].. but it smells like something is burning. like when you put toast in the toaster oven and it burns... thats what it smells likee.. lol but what is this caused by?
haha.. oh yeahh.. never did get around to replacing all of my smoke/carbon monoxide alarms! haha the smoke alarms just went off one day for some random reason and we couldnt get em to turn off so we just took them out.. that was about a year and a half ago! haha

How do i clean my toaster oven tray?

It has grease baked on the tray, I've tried letting it soak in hot soapy water and a plastic scrubbie, but it hardly got rid of any of the mess. Is there a good cleaner that I would already have in my house to get it off, or would I be better off buying a special cleaner for it?
I don't like using sos pads, but i will try that if the hot water and laundry softener doesn't work.

Toaster Ovens / Tabletop toasters & ovens....engineered to fail?

It seems that the last 3 "toaster ovens" of varying brands fail just after their one-year warranties expired. One particular oven I really liked, so I asked one of our engineers at work to open it up and see if he could get it to run again.

He showed me that there are plastic parts encased next to the heating elements that can tolerate only so much heat, and they fail. If all of the wiring inside were of heat-tolerant metals (my engineer friend told me), then the ovens would be lasting for multiple years...not just 2 to 3.

Which tells me that the manufacturers are pre-engineering these toaster ovens to fail, so that we have to replace them at least every 2-5 years.

Have you found this also to be the case?
What brands seem more reliable....less reliable to last?

I just bought a Cuisinart Brick Oven, top of the line of the 3 that they offer right now. Almost all reviews were A++, with the only complaint being that there was no pre-set timer to cut it off. (not an issue with me). It's warranty is also 3 years.

Do you think my new little oven will outlast it's warranty?
Is this a reflection of the degredation of the American Ingenuity in it's products? It may be put together outside of the US, but the non-American business & it's workers are still directed by American Industry of what parts to use, so if these items were built to last, there should NOT be plastic "doomed to fail" devices installed, right? Are the non-American manufacturers by-passing guidelines and doing unethical practices? If so, are they doing so WITH or WITHOUT the blessings of their American counter-parts?

...is it true that one of Thomas Edison's original light bulbs is STILL burning in that firehouse? Hmmmmm...........

Everything to do with the oven is banned. (You don't wanna know what happened last time!) Anyway, i re-posted this to get more answers. But anyway, i need some recipes (that involve no oven) that me and my lil sis can try. And yes, we can use the microwave oven. We also cant use the stove, we ahve no toaster oven.

Kitchen appliances we actually have:
Plain toaster
Kettle
Microwave
.....and that's about it.

Help me please!

if the electric company charges 7 cents for every kw x h of energy how much did it cost to operater the toaster

please help me!

1400w for 30 minutes is 1.4 kilowats for half an hour, which is .7 KWH. That is 2,520,000 joules.

At 7 cents per KWH, times .7 KWH, that would cost 4.9 cents, or $.049, or about a nickel.

Boy, half an hour! That would make some pretty dark toast!
